Health care reform. It’s a debate of great importance and intense interest to all Canadians. Confidence in our system is at an all time low, and people increasingly wonder if they will have access to the best treatment when they need it. New ideas and practical solutions are in great demand but short supply.

Dr. Gratzer argues that the two dominant schools of health reform — the magicians (those who want more government management) and the spendthrifts (those who favour more government spending) — are misguided. Instead, he proposes reforming health care along the lines of individual choice and competition.
